Hello friends, family, community, strangers even!
My name is Lavender. I am a queer artist in the City of Detroit, and I have work to do. Particularly, work within the performing arts. So, I'm deciding to share my dreams with you and see if there is anyone out there that wants to help make them a reality.
A few years ago, I had a dream about a big lavender colored house that could hold all of my big lavender ideas within it. Shortly after that dream, I came up with a name. For anyone that works with me creatively, usually when I get to a name the work will end up done, by any means necessary. The name for that idea is Lavender Live Arts- a live and performing arts centered organization to help connect, develop, and platform queer artists and their work. Whether artists are making theatre, dance, music, drag, etc.. this home will be big enough for everyone.
That being said, I need funds to begin making my programming and the programming of those around me a reality. So I humbly ask for your support, sharing, connection to further patronage.
In the world we're living in, the country we're living in, all we can do now is show up for each other. And I hope to see you there!
I am currently producing the first play ever from Lavender Live Arts. People You Do Drugs With, which is written, directed, and produced by me (and funded out of my own pocket). I am paying five Detroit artists across different creative industries to put their acting hats on and bring a story to life if a generative workshop setting.
I'm doing this because I'm about my business. I would love to pay the artist (McKenna Voss) who helped create this logo inspired by The Lavender Scare. Your dollars will only go towards supporting the work and payment of creatives in this city- telling stories that challenge and entertain audience members towards understanding, opening of the mind and heart.
The goal here is big, I know! And that's why this fundraiser will be going as long as we can- to raise as much funds as we can to create exciting new live arts and community based work and support systems within the City of Detroit
