Support Larson's Medical Journey

Donation protected
Larson has been a sick little boy for the past 2 years, starting from the age of 2 weeks old.

In July, 4 days before his 2nd birthday and after multiple hospitalizations, trips to and from Stollery Childrens Hospital in Edmonton, Larson had a dual bronch/gastroscopy along with biopsies of his lungs and intestines. It was at this time that 4 live bacteria  were present in his lungs along with flora due to aspiration, as well as a Laryngeal cleft palate was discovered.

Larson was then referred to have an ENT join the team of 5 Dr's already working with him; a Respirologist, Gastroenterologist, Immunologist and a Speech & Swallow Pathologist, who have decided Larson will require surgery to repair the cleft pallete. This surgery will hopefully allow him to eat safely without further aspiration.

Larson also has a team in Red Deer that work with him weekly; a Pediatrician, an Occupational therapist who works to assist with feeding and swallowing and a dietitian who helps with safe foods and weight gain. This team is needed because of multiple bouts of pneumonia and other bacterial infections due to aspiration when he eats and drinks. These frequent bouts cause Larson to have long perids of diarrhea, as result he has a hard time staying hydrated and gaining weight. His airway issues have delayed his speech and he was diagnosed with Speech Apraxia which requires extensive therapy each week.

Angela, Larson's mom, had to stop working as it is nearly impossible to hold a fulltime job and get Larson to all of his appointments in Red Deer and Edmonton, not to mention all the days he's sick and would not be able to attend day care.

Steve and Angela have been on their own for all of the medical expenses as Larson has been deemed 'not sick enough' to get funding from the government.

They have exhausted all of their savings and with 2 other boys, are now in a time of need as they await the surgery date. Once the surgery is set they will be in Edmonton for a minimum of 1 week which will require, hotel stay (they are trying to get into Ronald McDonald House but that depends on availibilty at the time), meals and gas. After they are discharged, there will still be multiple trips needed to Stollery for follow up appointments and his weekly sessions in Red Deer will continue.

Any donations would help the financial burden they are experiencing and alleviate some of the stress that comes with having a sick child.

Remember no donation is ever too small, it all adds up to help this family!
