<div>6.25전쟁이 발발한 지 71년 만에 드디어 이 전사자들의 소망이 이루어지게 되었습니다. 한반도의 평화와 자유를 위해 아낌없이 목숨을 바쳤던 미군 참전용사들과 한국군 (카투사) 을 기억하며 그들의 이름을 새기는 ‘추모의 벽’이 지금 워싱턴 D.C.에 위치한 한국전 참전용사 기념공원에 건립되고 있습니다.

<div>■ 워싱턴 D.C. 한국전 참전용사 기념공원에 세워지는 ‘추모의 벽’
</div>
<div>2022년 6월 완공을 목표로 세워지고 있는 ‘추모의 벽’은 미국 참전 순국용사 3만6,595명의 이름, 미군과 함께 싸우다 전사한 한국군인 (카투사) 7,174명의 이름이 영어 알파벳 순으로 함께 새겨집니다.

<div>2016년 10월 미 상원에서 ‘추모의 벽 건립 법’은 만장일치로 통과됐고 같은 해 11월 한국 국회에서도 건립지원 촉구 결의안이 통과됐습니다. 예산 규모는 2,420만 달러이며 한국 정부에서 직접공사비용인 2,200만 달러는 지원했지만 나머지 간접공사비용은 한국전 참전 용사들과 그 가족, 미국에 거주하는 교민들과 한국 국민들의 기부금을 통해 전액 충당해야 하는 상황입니다.

<div>이 중요한 모금을 위하여, 미국 비영리 단체인 한미 우호협회는 (www.USKorea.org) 한국계 미국인 10만명이 10불 이상을 보내는 캠페인을 GoMeFund를 통하여 2022년 1월 1일1일부터 2월 말까지 2개월간 전개 됩니다. 우리들의 생명을 지켜주고 자유를 찾아 주고자 목숨을 바친 용사들의 영혼에 행동으로 감사하는 기회를 활용 하실수 있기를 바랍니다.
