<div>On Thanksgiving Day 2024, Kierra and her family took her 6-week-old baby to the ER for a second opinion to make sure he was receiving the best possible care. Instead of care and compassion, she was met with suspicion.  A doctor and hospital child "protection" nurse reported them to DCF without exploring other medical explanations.

<div>Since then, multiple medical experts have reviewed their baby’s records and imaging, and confirmed what these parents have known all along: their son was not abused. Evidence shows that his symptoms could have stemmed from an underlying medical condition, handling by medical staff during his traumatic birth, or even from being a carrier of Pyle’s disease: a rare genetic disorder that can affect bone development even in carriers.

<div>Despite this evidence, DCF and associated agencies are pushing for an expedited termination of parental rights and trying to force a family adoption of their 3-year-old daughter and now 1-year-old son. Both children have been kept from their parents for nearly a year, even though their daughter has never had any injuries and both children experienced neglect in the foster system: losing weight, suffering bug bites, and having visits with their parents repeatedly canceled.

<div>This has been a devastating and exhausting fight, emotionally and financially. Kierra is working tirelessly to bring her children home, but the mounting legal and medical costs have put her in crisis.
