<div>During dark times like these, we try to find solace in the fact that he was truly at peace towards the end. He was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love that surrounded him. By seeing people band together for him and his family, he recognized the impact that he had on others' lives, and began to truly appreciate the meaningfulness and depth of his own. In a time of trial and challenge, Ken saw love.

<div>Thank you to everyone who made his family meals so they wouldn't have to worry about cooking, to those who picked his kids up from school or camp or drove them to an activity, thank you to those who reached out with a kind word, those who carved out time to visit him and those who were generous and donated to help him and his family fight this battle.

<div>Your kindness, care and generosity had a profound effect on him. When he passed, his mind was at peace and his heart was full.

<div>Ken is a 43 year old father to two young boys ages 4 and 6. He is currently battling a rare form of cancer that has been deemed incurable. A drug called Ivosidenib may be able to grant him more time. The drug is extremely expensive and not covered by his insurance plan. We're humbly asking for your help so that Ken can start the treatment as soon as possible.

<div>A few months ago, Ken began to develop mild abdominal discomfort. When the pain began to worsen, his wife suggested he have it checked out. After having some blood work and scans done in the ER, he was given life shattering news.

<div>Cholangiocarcinoma. Stage 4. Inoperable.
</div>

</div>
<div>If you've never heard of cholangiocarcinoma, it's a rare cancer that affects the bile ducts. It's mean. It's aggressive. And it's often silent so typically caught in the late stages where both the prognosis and survival rates are heartbreaking.

<div>With no option for curative surgery, Ken continues to undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Despite the exhaustion and side effects, Ken is working to keep up with his kids - desperately trying to build their core memories of him as a strong, lively, capable father. Playing soccer, taking them to the circus, picking them up and dropping them off - while his wife continues to work as a nurse - caring for others' loved ones while hers quietly go through the unthinkable.

<div>When Kens' oncologist mentioned a drug called Ivosidenib used specifically in cases like his, we felt a beacon of hope.

<div>So here we are, hoping to rally as a community to help grant Ken more time. Time with his kids who are still discovering how awesome he is. Moments with his wife (for just the two of them), and time with his parents who should never have to see their own child go through this.

<div>I'll never forget the first day I met him. I was visiting a friend in Vancouver and Ken happened to be out that night too. We hit it off immediately. He had this easy going nature about him with a side of quick witted humor. Sometimes silly, sometimes sarcastic but always hilarious. Within minutes we were laughing until we could hardly breathe. You see, he's nice without being boring. Charismatic but also genuine. He's a gentleman AND a guys' guy. He's sincere in the way that when he asks you how you're doing, he's REALLY asking. He cooks a five course meal for his wife just to show how much he loves her. Has dinner with his parents every week. He's the type of guy who, if you hadn't spoken in years and asked for a favor, he'd crack a joke so YOU wouldn't feel uncomfortable and then ask how he could help. He's THAT guy. The loving husband, the doting father and the type of son you hope your kid grows up to be like.
