Support Kelly's Family: Save Lightning

Donation protected
Help Kelly and her family save their 3-year-old horse, Lightning, who is battling early signs of botulism, a rare but serious illness caused by a toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. This toxin attacks the nervous system, causing muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, and, in severe cases, paralysis or death. Lightning is currently undergoing critical plasma treatment at OSU Veterinary, but the treatment is extremely costly. They were fortunate enough to catch the condition early, giving Lightning a fighting chance, but they’re facing significant financial strain, especially after losing their older horse, Honey, to the same illness just four days ago. Your support can help cover these unexpected veterinary expenses and give Lightning the care he needs to recover.

Every donation counts—thank you for helping Kelly’s family through this heartbreaking time.

**Lightning update from Kelly **

Hi everyone,

It’s been an exhausting and emotional week. We said goodbye to our Honey girl just a couple of days ago, and last night, we rushed Lightning to OSU with similar symptoms to what caused Honey’s passing due to an aggressive toxin in their bodies. I’m sharing an update on our poor boy, Lightning.
He has remained stable, and his symptoms have not progressed, which we’re thankful for, as the plasma he received seems to be working. However, he’s currently unable to swallow, so we haven’t been able to place a feeding tube. We’re praying he regains the ability to swallow within the next day. Please pray that tomorrow they can successfully place the feeding tube so he can get the nutrition he needs. If they can’t, he’ll need TPN for nutrients, which is very costly by the day.

Thankfully, he’s able to urinate and pass stool, which is encouraging. However, we’re not out of the woods yet. Lightning has been at OSU for about 24 hours, and while he hasn’t become recumbent or declined further.

I know God sees us and knows what’s going on, and I’m holding onto faith that everything will work out. Please pray we can get the feeding tube placed and help Lightning recover from this awful toxin so he can come home to finish healing.
