Five Star Guinness Red, aka Kegger, has hurt himself again and this time we are in need of help!! Most that followed our Kegger's journey starting in October 2022, when a freak accident injured his right left lower bone, scraped the skin down to the bone, and the bone received trauma, were worried the bone would probably die off, and it did. A week later, X-rays were taken to show his bone was nearly hanging on, and we rushed him to WSU.
This was something they had never seen and had to research what to do. They stabilized the bone with a pin cast and waited until the bone finished dying off so they could surgically go in and clean it up. He was at WSU for 2 months while the bone slowly healed. He was released at the end of December, where he came home to 3 months of stall rest as it healed. Kegger survived this big ordeal, and we were thrilled that this special boy beat the odds.
Fast forward to today, where we are in another life-saving situation!! Kegger was at the trainer's learning to be ridden and was kicked by a horse in his left rear thigh area. The vet exam showed just muscle trauma, and he was put on stall rest. Two months later, they thought he was stable enough to bring him home to continue his healing since he was still not putting weight fully on his leg. I had my vet, Dr. Grimmet, check him out the next morning. She started looking at his thigh and looked down to his fetlock, which was swollen. X-rays were taken to show his fetlock is broken!! So here we are, take him in and do another extensive surgery or euthanasia.
I am humbly asking for as much help as possible to save him!! Please and thank you so, so very much.
