<div>Kayla and I have been married for 15 years, and we have three amazing kids — Isaac, Sophie, and Erik. Over the years, Kayla has faced a long and difficult journey with several rare medical conditions involving her connective tissue, vascular system, and nerves.

<div>These health challenges have caused her daily pain and led to repeated ER visits and hospital stays for issues like nerve pain, stroke-like symptoms, migraines, difficulty breathing, and loss of consciousness due to restricted blood flow to and from her brain.

<div>To address these issues, Kayla has undergone multiple complex surgeries — including the removal of a rib, several neck muscles, and resection of chest muscles — to relieve pressure and restore circulation. Her most recent surgery in March 2025 revealed significant nerve damage and scarring affecting her breathing and arm function. Doctors also discovered that a major vein on the left side of her neck remains completely compressed and still needs to be decompressed to restore proper blood flow.

<div>Through it all, Kayla remains positive, strong, and determined. She works full-time as an IT technician (and loves what she does!), keeps our family grounded, and continues to find joy in time with loved ones — even on the hard days.

<div>Her next surgery is scheduled for <strong>September 9th, 2025</strong>, to address the remaining compression and nerve damage. The procedure will involve removing more bone and muscle and cleaning up scar tissue affecting key nerves. Recovery will take <strong>4–6 weeks</strong> <strong>off work</strong>, followed by <strong>ongoing physical therapy </strong>to help her regain mobility and function in her neck and arm.

<div>While we’re doing everything we can, the out-of-pocket medical expenses continue to grow — and this next round of care adds another financial burden during her recovery time.
