Tex moves in and new training begins Mar 2019

In Sept 2017, Karrie’s faithful service dog Blair passed away. Blair and Karrie were a high-performing team! Together they were able to navigate difficult sidewalks, get on the bus to church, errands, the senior center, Reading Room, haircuts, etc.
Since Blair left, we (Karrie’s family and a search team) have been diligently searching for a new service dog. This has included outreach to several agencies who would have charged between $15,000-$25,000, had long waiting lists, and/or required travel outside Karrie’s familiar area.
With the help of Karrie’s good friends, we were recently introduced to a breeder with 30 years experience breeding and training young dogs. Karrie was thrilled at the idea of meeting a new dog from the recent litter and considering his feasibility for her next service helper.
Karrie and I (her mom) have now met with the pup and breeder twice. On the last visit we brought along a professional service dog trainer from Longmont who will work with us in the future.
After all the research, waiting, further investigation, hope for a mature trained dog, and prayer, we are joyfully moving forward with a plan to purchase Tex — a sweet, trainer-assessed puppy who fits the bill for Karrie!
Karrie’s mom has placed a deposit for Tex of $1250 and owe $1250 more to secure him for Karrie.
The breeder has agreed to train him for 6 months until he is mature enough to come home with Karrie and begin his service dog training with our Longmont professional.
Funds are needed to support these expenses, as there are no disability grants available and Karrie’s family is not able to cover them. GoFundMe gifts will go toward the following for the 12 months of onboarding Karrie’s dog:
$1250 for final payment for Tex
$2250 for 6 months puppy of training and costs Aug-Jan ($375/mo)
$2400 for 6 months training with the Longmont trainer after he joins Karrie (Jan-June)
TOTAL $6000
The family has already placed a downpayment of $1250 on the puppy as required by the breeder.
