On November 22nd the world lost a wonderful and courageous man, and our dear friend Karen lost her beloved husband Corey Mikami (aged 39yrs) to an aggressive brain tumour. We are calling upon family, friends and the wider community to help raise funds for Karen (now a single parent) and their 2 year old son Remy, to ensure financial stability over the months and years to come.
Corey and Karen met in 2012 in San Francisco, and it was practically love at first sight. These two souls were meant to be together. Karen moved from Sydney to be with Corey in California, they married soon after and have a beautiful son named Remy Raphael.
Corey was a long-term patient of Stanford University Hospital. He was first diagnosed with Astrocytoma 19 years ago. He was a strong, positive man and achieved remission. He valued his life and lived it to the fullest, with love, happiness and a generous spirit. He touched all those he met with kindness and compassion, and is known to us all as a gentle and kind soul. Sadly, in 2016 Corey aged 37 years old had a relapse of his tumour. He has spent the last 23 months using all his strength, love-of-life and positivity to fight for his health and to remain with his family whom he adored. He never complained, even throughout the toughest times, and lived with chronic and debilitating vertigo for the final 5 months. During the last 23 months he was unable to work, and Karen worked limited hours to be able to care for him at home.
We love this little family so much and there are no words to express the heartbreak we all feel for Karen, Remy and Corey's parents, siblings, friends and colleagues.
Corey cared for his loved ones so much, and now its our turn to care for his.
We are aiming to raise in excess of $100,000 in order for Karen and little Remy to have financial stability over the months and years to come. Karen will also donate a portion to innovative research for cancer treatment and to something environmental keeping true to Corey's love of the outdoors.
