We Support Kaotar and Her Children

We are asking for immediate support for our friend Kaotar, her 13 yr old daughter, and 7 yr old son.  Kaotar is a Domestic Violence survivor in the LA area who has been fighting an illegal eviction and dealing with harassment from her abuser and landlords for months — all made even more difficult because of the pandemic lockdown.  She has had to stay in her house without water or power in order to prevent further attempts at illegally evicting her.  She has to travel back and forth to a hotel in order to shower, do laundry, and keep refrigerated her daughter's medicine for Type 1 Diabetes.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Due to persistent and ongoing abuse, Kaotar had to seek a restraining order in Dec 2019 against her abusive spouse, whose family owns the house she has lived in for over 20 years.  In retribution, the abuser and his family have tried to illegally kick her out of her home without following the law, and putting her and her kids through hell for months. The landlords and abuser have illegally turned off the utilities, called the cops on her, sent people to her home to harass her and the children, even destroyed plumbing and boarded up windows — breaking the laws that protect tenants from such actions. 

WHY WE NEED HELP
It takes time and resources to deal with all the lawyers, cops, and courts in order to resolve this — meanwhile Kaotar and her family have had to stay in her home without water or electricity to protect it and maintain their rights.  Kaotar has worked tirelessly to find legal help, food donations, and a generator so that she can provide a safe home for her family.  She is working with lawyers and community organizations to force the owners, the utility companies and the city to restore her rights as the legal tenant of her home, while trying to make plans for the future of her family.  We are trying to help her find the support she needs while she fights this time-consuming battle.

We ask that you give whatever you can, so that Kaotar can keep the lights on, keep her daughter’s medicine refrigerated and buy food and other necessities while she fights to keep her home and plan for the future.
