<div>Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a disease that attacks the nerves that control your muscles. In simple terms, the brain eventually loses the ability to send signals to the body to move. Over time, muscles become weak and stop working, making it harder to walk, use your hands, talk, swallow, and eventually breathe. About 33,000 people in the United States are currently living with ALS. Roughly 5,000 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. every year - about 1 person every 90 minutes. About 90-95% of ALS cases happen without a known cause. Only about 5-10% are inherited genetically.

<div>Justyn's career in healthcare was inspired by his mom's battle with ALS. Justyn stepped into the role of being her caregiver with strength, compassion, and unwavering love. That experience shaped the course of his life and encouraged a career dedicated to helping others. For 8 years, he worked as an emergency department technician at Elmhurst Hospital, caring for patients during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Determined to do even more, he earned his nursing degree from Rasmussen University and began working as a Registered Nurse on the cardiac unit at Good Samaritan Hospital.

<div>But his dream had always been the emergency room. After about a year on the cardiac unit, Justyn's dream finally became reality when he transferred departments and became a nurse in Good Samaritan's Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department. Justyn was where he always wanted to be, finally.

<div>His dream however was short lived. Now, life has taken an unimaginable turn. The man who spent his life caring for others has been diagnosed with ALS himself. In an instant, everything changed. The disease that took his mother far too soon is now the battle he is facing personally.

<div>Justyn has spent his life showing up for others in their darkest moments. Now, it's time for us to show up for him. Your support, prayers, and generosity can help ease the burden on him and his fiancé, Jenni, as they navigate this devastating diagnosis and the challenges ahead.
