<div>He finished the 5 day treatment with IVIG, and had an antitoxin for botulism flown in yesterday from Seattle. They ruled out any illness from ticks or mosquitos, but still dont know what it is so they treated him for AMAN variant of Guillian Barre and botulism, but still no improvement or official diagnosis. He has a lot of fluid in his lungs, and even with the ventilator turned up his oxygen levels still drop. He has some issues with his blood pressure being a little high or low on and off. They have him on gabapentin for nerve pain which they say can be extremely painful, OxyContin and fentanyl  I hate all these heavy medications but don’t want him to suffer any more than he already is. When he is more awake, he gets panicky because he feels like he is not getting enough air. Yesterday we used the spelling board and he started spelling out (using his eyes to select letters) “thank you” and “I love you” and that he wanted me to sleep at the hospital again. He really hates when I have to leave. When I’m away from him and with the kids I’m very anxious knowing how scared and miserable he is, and when I’m at the hospital away from the kids I’m anxious and miss being home with them. It’s so hard to be home without him, it’s hard to drive around without him and hard to go to stores or anywhere without him. Camila broke down in the parking lot of thunderbird the other day because we always went together, and any time she went with just him he would spoil her and let her get things I usually said no to. It’s hard to do all the things that he used to do or take care of. We just miss having him home so much.

<div>Juan still has no official diagnosis, but is being treated for AMAN syndrome with IVIG treatments. Today will be day 5 of 5. Doctors ordered an antitoxin treatment from Seattle that should be here today to treat for botulism, just in case. They say the treatment won’t hurt anything even if he doesn’t have botulism.

<div>The only update on his condition is that his face is also starting to become paralyzed.

<div>On November 14th, my sisters husband, Juan Miranda, woke up in the morning limping, with pain in his hip/leg. As he drove to work things continued to worsen. He made himself a doctors appointment and drove there around 3:15. By the time he got there, his condition was so bad that he could not get out of his truck to walk into the doctors office. His doctor called my sister at work and asked her to pick him up or they would have to call an ambulance. She took him to the ER, and waited for hours as his condition continued to decline.

<div>He has had two CT scans that came back normal and an MRI.

<div>Since then his team of doctors have thought it could be Guillain Barre Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, tick paralyses, West Nile Virus, AMAN syndrome and IVIG, the latter 2 of which they are treating him for currently with hopes of improvement but no solid answers or diagnoses.

<div>He was put on a ventilator yesterday, November 15th, and currently still remains unable to talk, breath or move beyond nodding a yes or no.

<div>Juan is scared, and sad, and misses his kids terribly. He is a kind, funny, hard working man and dedicated husband to my sister, Amber, and father to 2 amazing children, Camila and Lio, who want their dad to come home safe and healthy.
</div>
