It's Cassel Miles here. I need your help, please. I am asking you to donate to this Go Fund Me campaign for JOSIAH because Josiah Henson's story needs to be known, heard and felt. It was my good fortune to come upon his inspiring story in 2004 at a very low point in my life. Mental health was not as widely understood then as it is now. It was a lonely, painful time. When I heard his story it changed my life. His story stirred me out of depression. I became curious to know who this man was. It inspired Harriet Beecher-Stowe to create the character of 'Tom' in the ground-breaking novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. As it had affected me and Harriet Beecher-Stowe, I wondered who else might benefit from this remarkable man's extraordinary story.

Here was a man who was brutally enslaved for forty-one years yet managed to embody the best qualities of character, integrity, resilience, faith and determination. His was a soul that endured and triumphed in the face of inescapable adversity. In fact, when he met with the Archbishop of Canterbury, later in his life, he confessed that he received his education at the University of Adversity.

Josiah Henson published his best-selling story in 1849. One hundred and seventy-five years later the world needs his message now more than ever. We look to the past for the inspiration to move forward. It is time to share his story and to honour his request. In his autobiography, upon which JOSIAH is based, he wrote:

" …. that the character of the man, and the striking nature of the events of his life will be thought to justify the endeavor to make them more extensively known. The story has this advantage, that it is not fiction, but fact; and it will be found fruitful in instruction by those who attentively consider its lessons."

Personally, those lessons were, and continue to be, laden with fruitful and beneficial instruction. I know that they will bear fruits of inspiration for many others, once known. This is why I am asking for your help, financially, to afford me and my team, Jim Garrard, Anne Mortensen, Amanda Doerrie and Sandy McFadden, the best opportunities to produce this show professionally and to share Mr. Henson's story with as many people as we can.
