I'm creating this campaign for my brother, Josiah Brandt.
Everyone who knows Josiah has encountered his kindness, intelligence, humor, diligence, strength, courage, and love of adventure. He is about to turn 25, and is setting out on his life path with a degree in chemical engineering and plans to become a medical doctor.
Josiah was just diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He received his diagnosis the same week he was supposed to move to Memphis, TN to start medical school. This came as a total shock to everyone, and we are still coping with the uncertainty and chaos that this type of illness brings. We are optimistic about the outcome of the lifesaving treatment he is receiving, but it is a long road ahead with many obstacles.
In the past three weeks, he had multiple biopsies, had his first of several PET scans, had a port implanted, began chemotherapy, and was hospitalized for two days with severe complications. The side effects of his treatment and many crucial medications have led to a lot of pain and discomfort, which we have also been trying to mitigate.
The costs have begun to add up quickly, including everything mentioned above and other incidentals, such as a reclining chair to help him sleep through his nausea and an air purifier to lessen the chance of infection. Plenty of healthy and nutritious food to help Josiah's body recover is also a large cost. This fundraising goal is an estimate of what will help with the initial bills and foreseeable costs over the next few months. Information is forthcoming as far as exact treatment costs, and the goal will be updated accordingly.
The first thought on everyone's mind right now is getting Josiah healthy, regardless of the price tag. Please help us keep the bills in the back of our minds as we start this fight. Thanks for your care and concern, and for joining with us in this significant way!
