<div>My name is Jenni and I want you to know about my friend Joni. She is a nurse and a single mom to five kids, the youngest is just 10 years old. Early this past summer, <strong>Joni was diagnosed with breast cancer</strong>. Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with mets to the lymph nodes to be exact. Surgery revealed that the cancer was more advanced than initially thought, and she is now off work doing 20 weeks of treatment: 16 rounds of chemo followed by 6 weeks of radiation and a 2nd surgery afterwards. Standard chemo side effects of nausea, vertigo, exhaustion, and brain fog have made a quick return to work impossible. (And if you have worked in healthcare, you know how tiring it can be even when you are 100%.)

<div>Joni's family has gone through all of their resources trying to keep her household afloat. But with short-term and long-term disability only covering a fraction of what wasn't a big income to begin with, she is now facing food insecurity and possibly even eviction.

<div>While facing a serious illness like cancer as a parent, Joni needs to manage day-to-day household activities alongside miserable side effects of treatment. Having to also worry about how she will cover groceries, medication, treatment costs, transportation to and from treatment, rent and utilities is simply too much.
