My name is Monica and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my brother Johnny (Jerome) Smith. Johnny was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in September 2024, 8 months after losing and burying his eldest son.

Multiple myeloma is a rare and painful cancer diagnosis that is severely impacting his capabilities, quality of life, and ability to provide for himself and his family. As a result of the cancer cells deteriorating his bones and creating physical and financial hardships, he is preparing to have a bone marrow transplant which will require hospitalization at and a minimum of 3 months to a year's absence from work. In the interim, he still has mounting medical expenses and household expenses while going through all of this.

That’s a huge strain, especially when you’re used to making a living and providing for yourself and your family. This recovery is not going to be quick. After already going through several rounds of chemotherapy, the transplant is the next step in attempting to save and prolong his life. This is where we need your help in offsetting some of the costs for medical bills and treatments, daily essentials, and other care-related costs.

If you know Johnny personally, you probably know he's a fighter and has been through a lot in his 51 years, and that he rarely ever asks for help. This battle is truly humbling and sensitive to us, as we lost our mother years ago to her own battle with cancer. We can’t get through this alone.
