Support Jessica’s Migralepsy Recovery

(Written by Josie Stamey, Jessica's daughter)

Jessica Stamey, a loving mother of three, four-time cancer survivor, and passionate entrepreneur, has suffered uncontrollable migraines and seizures with no solution or real relief for the past three years.

On Jan 3rd, 2021, my mother began her day with a painful migraine. Three days later, she was rushed to the ER with stroke symptoms, hallucinations, tremendous head pain, and full-blown seizures.

Eight hours later, after having had some fluids and a CT Scan, she was released with a referral to see a neurologist the following week -- She had just been treated by the local neurologist with a migraine cocktail with zero relief.

My mother has suffered unlike anything I have ever seen. They recommended an EEG for her, however after three more weeks, they still hadn't contacted her to schedule after we called several times.

We decided to search for the best neurologist we could find in Georgia, and we eventually found Dr. Alan Maloon in Marietta. He ordered the MRI and EEG that she needed, and she had those tests done by March 17, 2021.

During all of this time, my mother cries in pain, has little to no vision, can not speak in a manner that can be understood, and has completely lost her personality. She has become a shell of the incredible woman we remember.

She requires full time, around-the-clock care. We bathe her, cook for her, and help her walk -- She isn't even able to balance and walk alone most days. Her life has been taken from her with no immediate relief in sight.

Although Dr. Maloon originally felt very positive about her recovery, after viewing the many home videos of her speech and inabilities, he has grown increasingly concerned. She has a visit with her doctor every two weeks, and even then, we need to make after-hour calls to try and get relief for her.

We have tried every migraine cocktail they prescribed, strict dietary changes, even some the strongest narcotics to help her with little to no relief.

My mother has no medical insurance and no income. She has been denied unemployment twice with no disability or SSI available to her yet. We have exhausted all of our options and are struggling to find relief for her.

She has been diagnosed with a rare form of Epilepsy, called Migralepsy. Although more medical testing is required to get a full diagnosis for my mother's condition, her extreme pain and the fact that it persists all day, every day is rare and is very concerning to her doctors.

Fortunately, no tumors have been found, and no significant brain bleeds have been found. My mother is a four-time cancer survivor:  she has battled since the age of 19 with cancer and has been cancer-free for seven years now.

Dr. Maloon has advised us that there is an extended-time night sleep EEG that is the next step for her after pending the EEG results from March 17.

The last option is a visit to the Reed Migraine Center in Texas to discuss her eligibility for a brain implant, where a pacemaker device is used in the neck or shoulder area to power the device under the skin between the skull.

This has placed an unprecedented financial burden on our family, and while we will stop at nothing to have her back, we are in desperate need of serious financial assistance.

To date, the medical expenses have risen to over $50,000 with more to come with the sleep EEG, weekly medical visits, medication, and the much needed personal therapy.

She is extremely saddened and fighting to keep hope.

The possible Reed Migraine procedure alone is $49,000 without plane tickets, or accommodations to and from the facility.

Jessica is a mother of three beautiful children:  June who is 13,  Josie who is 17, and Allen who is 19. She has been in the cosmetology industry as a business owner, a color specialist and barber for 26 years.

We need all the emotional and financial help we can possibly get. We have exhausted Jessica’s savings and the expenses continue to rise.

Any help, donations, prayers and love would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Love,

Josie Stamey
