Jessica Roush, a lively 11-year-old girl, has a recent diagnosis of Autoimmune Hepatitis. Unlike the well-known Viral Hepatitis (A, B, C), this is a rare condition where one's own body attacks the liver. 
 
On Nov 2nd, 2024, she was emergency transported to Children's Hospital after receiving critically low lab values. 
 
Doctors found that she had developed pancreatitis along with evidence of internal bleeding. These findings led to multiple blood transfusions. While giving life-saving transfusions, they still needed to locate the source of the bleeding, which required a number of different scans, scopes, and blood draws. After about two weeks in the hospital, being on food restrictions, having headaches so bad that she could barely keep her eyes open, and missing her friends terribly, she was given a secondary diagnosis of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. PSC is another rare condition that causes narrowing and scarring of the bile ducts in and around the liver. Unfortunately, the solution for this condition is a liver transplant. 
 
Although Jessie is able to go home, she is looking at hospital visits like this for the rest of her life. 
 
On December 13, 2024, Jessica was officially placed on the liver transplant list. She is now eagerly awaiting the phone call telling her a liver is available. 
 
As the holiday season progresses, please help this sweet family manage the upcoming expenses of a liver transplant, covering time off work, transportation to and from the hospital, meals while at the hospital, and hotel stays so that the family can be together occasionally when little Jessie has to be hospitalized.
