Please support the Trickey Family after sudden loss of their young son,
J A S O N “O O F I E” T R I C K E Y
22 Apr 2004 – 27 Sep 2019

Jason Trickey, 15, the youngest son of well-known Yarragon locals Robbie and Shirlene Trickey lost his short health battle and gained his angel wings this morning.

Sadly his Dad and Mum and siblings were told in the early hours of Friday 27th of September that Jason had had a suspected stroke. Scans showed that he had had a bleed in his brain and was only given hours to live; with all his might, and the expertise of the amazing medical staff, there was nothing anyone could do except say their goodbyes...for some of his siblings they never got there in time.

So why was he in the Royal Children’s Hospital on life support fighting for his life? Three weeks ago, he was on the footy field kicking goals.

On the 16th of Sept Jason became unwell and was taken to West Gippsland Hospital and sent home with a ‘Viral Infection'. The following day he was taken back with chest and left shoulder pain. Following more tests, fluid was found on his heart and it was decided to transfer him to Monash Hospital in Clayton.

The following day, Jason's heart was starting to fail. With the tender care of the PIPER team, he was transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital and placed in ICU. That night he developed fluid on his lungs, so they inserted a breathing tube and sedated him.

This week has been an anxious one for his family, with him being placed on an Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), also known as life support.

A biopsy on his heart determined he had Myocarditis but they could not find which virus caused it. A lung biopsy found Haemophilus Influenzae, however it was a secondary infection to the heart virus.

Doctors indicated worst case was the need for a heart transplant, best was 95% he would come through, but could run into months before they would have any idea. Today all hope was crushed and their hearts shattered.

His family remained by his side for the entirety of his illness.

On behalf of the Trickey family we would like to thank the Drs and Staff at West Gippsland Hospital, Monash Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital for the care and efforts to try to bring Jason to good health again. Sadly it was not to be and we know the wonderful Doctors, surgeons, specialists and nurses that tendered to him are also grieving the loss of Jason.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Currently, Robbie and Shirlene and the family are still trying to understand and comprehend that their baby boy is not coming home.

The last few weeks have put a toll on the family emotionally and financially. Today the little bit of strength and hope they were holding onto has been ripped away, leaving a raw gaping hole.

In life we all expect to bury our partner, our grandparents and parents, but nobody should have to bury their young child.

We have started this “Gofundme” page to try and assist them with funeral costs and give them time to grieve without having to worry about returning to work straight away.

Any small donation to assist them through this traumatic time would be sincerely appreciated.
