Bvlbancha Liberation Radio

Tax deductible
Bvlbancha Liberation Radio is an Indigenous-led weekly online radio show and communications hub housed with awesome co-conspirators at Catapult in the Marigny. Additionally, some of the members of BLR, plus our good friend Jen Liu, started Swamp Net, a project that explores off-grid alternative and autonomous community intranet, mesh networks, and site-specific community archives.

Since our conception post Hurricane Ida (2021) we have:
  • Hosted mutual aid meetings
  • Hosted community dinners for our Intertribal community
  • Maintained a weekly radio show featuring Indigenous news, views, and music since 2021.
  • Hosted Indigenous and local musical talent on the radio, and in concert.
  • Hosted Disco-techs, community talks, and workshops on mesh networking and Community intranet.

Catapult also served as a supply drop-off and organizing site for Bvlbancha and in Bayou communities following Hurricane Ida.

BLR, Swamp Net and our Catapult community would like to continue as a community resource, and mutual aid communications hub in times of disaster, and add:
  • Spanish langauge programming, building relationships and bridges between the Americas
  • Mutual Aid coordination
  • Tech Stewardship and Workshops
  • More Indigenous and value-aligned shows and concerts
  • Community Herbal Medicine-making
  • Indigenous movie nights
  • And more!

We are launching this campaign to pay for rent, utilities, and equipment upgrades for this year. Any amount above our target goal of $6K will go toward our awesome Gulf South Indigenous and environmental programming!

In addition to our Go Fund Me campaign, we are also hosting an in-person community fundraiser and Earth Day Celebration!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 6-11pm
CANOA • 4210 St. Claude New Orleans, LA
Speakers, Storytellers, Live Music, Garifuna Food & Silent Auction!!!
$10-20 suggested donation, no one turned away for lack of funds

We will be holding space for an Earth Day Altar, and ask our beloved community to bring a small jar or pouch of soil from a place special to you to add to the altar for the evening. These soils will later be incorporated into further work at the Nanih Bvlbancha, the modern earthen mound on the Lafitte Greenway. (nanihbvlbancha.net)
