Yesterday June 4, 2021, we received some devastating news when our mother found our dad, Humberto Castillo, unconscious in our house in Venezuela. After a few hours, we were able to transport him to the hospital (Hospital de Clínicas Caracas). Our dad was intubated as he couldn’t breathe by himself and had his left side completely paralyzed. The initial diagnosis is that our dad suffered a stroke, which will be able to be evaluated after the brain swelling decreases in a few days.
We are grateful to the doctors that have been helping him, and today, after almost 24 hours in a coma, he started to breathe on his own, move both sides of his body, and open his eyes, even though we still don’t know if he can talk and communicate in any way.
As many of you know, the health and economic situation in Venezuela is extremely difficult and having a dear one fall ill in our country is the worst nightmare we could have. Like so many Venezuelans, insurance policies are insignificant to the amounts charged by medical institutions. Today, we are seeing the expenses to keep our dad in the hospital, receiving the help he needs, are adding up to amounts we can not afford.
We don’t know how long our dad must be hospitalized, and medical services are charged in advance which is forcing us to ask for help at this moment. So any amount of money you can donate will be extremely helpful. If you can’t donate, please help us share this campaign.

El día de ayer, 4 de Junio de 2021 recibimos unas de las más temidas noticias cualquier Venezolano pueda recibir: mi mamá encontró a nuestro papá, Humberto Castillo, inconsciente en su casa en Caracas, Venezuela. Luego de un par de horas, pudieron transportarlo a el Hospital de Clínicas Caracas, y tratarlo. Al llegar a la clínica nuestro papá fue entubado ya que no podía respirar por sí mismo, y el lado izquierdo del cuerpo lo tenia totalmente paralizado. El diagnóstico inicial es que papá sufrió de un ACV (Accidente Cardio-Vascular), del cual no tendremos información del daño real hasta que la inflamación de su cerebro disminuya.
Estamos sumamente agradecidos con los doctores que lo están atendiendo, y hoy, luego de casi 24 horas de estar en coma, mi papá pudo comenzar a respirar por si mismo, comenzó a mover ambos lados de su cuerpo y abrió los ojos, aunque todavía no sabemos si puede hablar o comunicarse.
Como muchos saben, la situación económica y de salud en Venezuela es sumamente complicada y que un ser querido caiga en enfermedad es la peor pesadilla que muchos de nosotros tememos. Como muchos otros Venezolanos, pólizas de seguro son insignificantes frente a los montos que cobran las instituciones médicas. Hoy, estamos viviendo esta realidad, cuando los cobros para mantener a nuestro papá en la clínica recibiendo los cuidados necesarios para su mejoría ascienden a montos que no podemos cubrir.
No sabemos cuanto tiempo nuestro papá deberá estar internado, y los gastos médicos son cobrados por adelantado, por lo que hemos recurrido a crear esta campaña y pedir ayuda de todos Uds. Cualquier cantidad que puedan donar, por más pequeña que sea, nos ayudará inmensamente a poder cubrir los gastos necesarios para que mi papá pueda tener los cuidados requeridos. Si no puedes donar, compartir esta campaña será de gran ayuda!
