Donations will be allocated towards the non-profit organization the Midnight Mission (not-affiliated) as well as various TBD COVID-19 relief centers. (If you are concerned why funds are not going directly towards the Midnight Mission, this is because I plan to distribute/allocate the money to more than one organization).
The complete story:
Some of us can afford to give others a chance. If you are one of those people, please donate if you can. More and more people die on the streets--many even to a simple stomach flu--in other words, preventable lost lives. Since the pandemic began, members of the homeless community, communities of color, as well as both combined have been hit the hardest because many cannot afford the safety precautions a lot of us often take for granted.
I began this idea (H.O.P.E.--Helping Out People Everyday) as a small club in my sophomore year of high school to deliver monthly needed supply drops to various shelters/homeless centers based around the Los Angeles area. I am looking to take it to the next level to convert it into a non-profit organization, mainly focused on combating homelessness within the LA community. However, as I scramble to get into college and allow the idea to pick up momentum, the world continues to lie victim to poverty. The COVID-19 breakout virus is not slowing down. I am reviving this idea due to the urgency of our situation--the urgency of their struggle.
Again, I'd like to reiterate that the virus attacks members of these communities more fervently than others, not only because many cannot afford the basic safety necessities needed to keep themselves or their families safe (i.e. masks, hand sanitizer, hygiene products, etc.), but also because of a larger issue surrounding systemic racism which keeps people of color in lower positions.
In short--WE MUST ACT. I honestly can't watch from the sidelines any more. If you feel or think the same way, please consider donating whatever you can.
I plan to allocate/distribute the funds collected here towards homeless centers in Los Angeles (i.e. The Midnight Mission, etc) or centers that specialize in COVID-19 relief. As we can no longer personally make trips to downtown LA, we will be helping these organizations from a distance in any way we can until further notice.
We plan to normally cycle through various organizations or focus on helping just a few at a time. If you have an organization recommendation that focuses in helping the homeless or helping communities of color or those displace by the COVID-19 virus, please be sure to contact us at our Gmail provided by GoFundMe.
