“Fence for a Cause”, is a volunteer group that was founded in 2019. It is made up of passionate fencers from different high schools. Each year, the members choose one cause that they all believe in for their joint fundraiser. “Fence for a Cause” invites you to join the team to support the His Friends Ministry at Cho Dae Presbyterian Church this year. The ministry provides church members with special needs and their families a safe and comfortable environment in which to worship, as well as assistance outside the church in dealing with all the difficulties of everyday life.
Hello, my name is Russell Cha, and I am a rising senior at Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest. In 8th, and 9th grade, I used to be a volunteer at the His Friends Ministry at Cho Dae Community Church. The ministry provides members with special needs and their families a safe and comfortable environment in which to worship, as well as assistance outside the church in dealing with all the difficulties of everyday life. I loved working at the program and it helped me learn life lessons such as patience, caring, and the meaning of friendship in God. However, my fencing practice and tournament schedule unfortunately no longer allows me time to commit to serve at the His Friends Ministry. Instead, I started a fundraiser for them and raised over $1500 to donate to the ministry last year. I was overwhelmed with gratefulness and I want to thank everyone who helped me achieve this milestone.
This year, my friends from different schools and I, who share the same passion for fencing, are teaming up to maximize our impact for this year’s cause, “serving His Friends”. The fund will be used to purchase necessary items for the ministry. Based on the amount of time that we practice fencing over the summer, patrons can pledge a certain amount for each hour. Each of us are planning to practice over 100 hours this summer, so for example, a pledge of $0.10/hour would be $10, $1/hour is $100, etc. Any pledge, regardless of the amount, is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for joining us to serve!
