On January 8, 2025, Harriet Mahaffey underwent emergency surgery to remove a hernia that had attached to her small bowel. She then had to undergo another surgery on January 24th due to a hematoma that had formed around the small bowel. On February 3rd, Harriet had to have a third surgery due to a persistent small bowel obstruction. During this period, she received multiple blood transfusions and intubation because of collapsed lungs. Additionally, she experienced hospitalization delirium due to her long stay at the hospital. As of now, she continues to suffer from intermittent confusion. She’s also bed bound due to having her hip bone removed because of infection.

Upon discharge, Harriet will need to return home but will require round-the-clock care. The family is concerned that she may not be able to cope in a nursing facility due to her mental state and the conditions of the facilities. They believe that she needs to be home with her family where she can receive personalized care and love. The family is seeking assistance in covering the cost of hiring a nighttime nurse who can provide support to the family during the night.
