Our sweet cat, Hammy, is ill and we are trying to figure out exactly what is going on. Around 6 months ago, we took him to the vet because of some bathroom issues. After the vet ran all of their tests, it was decided that he had an inflamed GI tract. We followed their recommendation (probiotics, change in diet to get a specific protein, etc.), and it appeared to be helping. He was no longer having issues with using the litter box or vomiting.

Recently, we have noticed that he was losing some weight. The initial hope was that he is now feeling better and losing weight due to the prescription food he was eating. However, the weight loss continued, and it was happening rapidly. We took him in to the vet, where we were told he needed to stay overnight so that they could run additional tests.

He had an ultrasound today, April 3rd, and we were devastated to learn that they found some masses (that were not previously seen when doing tests). Our hope is that these are caused from an infection or even just benign tumors. The worst case scenario, that we are praying it is not, would be malignant tumors. They are doing additional testing to figure out more information.

Unfortunately, all of this testing has put quite the financial strain on our family, but we are not ready to give up on our little guy. My wife and I are both teachers, and at home we have have Hammy, our dog Duke, and another cat Wayne, along with the newest member of our family: our beautiful son who will be turning 8 months old soon.
