Support Gunduz Family

After Turkey's autocratic president Erdogan's baseless accusations to Gulen movement for the failed coup attempt in July 2016, a systematic, borderline genocide-like attack to those who volunteered in, worked at, or supported organizations and events that are inspired by Gulen have begun in Turkey and abroad.  In Turkey, hundreds of thousands of people were fired from their jobs, their passports were taken and they were blacklisted so that they could not work anywhere, almost hundred thousand were imprisoned, many tortured. Erdogan also used economic ties and other means to convince countries with autocratic regimes to abduct Turkish individuals living/ taking refuge there. As a result, many of the very successful schools opened by Gulen movement were also closed and people working in those schools were forced to leave those countries.

Gunduz family is a family of educators who selflessly devoted their lives to the education of African kids. Their school in Mali was highly praised by the leaders of the country for the quality of its teaching, for the scholarships that it provided to students with financial struggles and for supporting diversity. But it was closed after Erdogan did use trade ties and other means to pressure the government of Mali. They were either going to be deported to Turkey or they had to take refuge in a country with democratic standards.

They are now refugees in Sweden waiting for the result of their asylum application. The government of  Switzerland placed them in a refugee camp in Sunne near  Norway border. However, their children go to school which is 5 miles away from their location. They have to walk there in negative Fahrenheit conditions in the morning with their children and then do the same thing again in the afternoon. They do not mind it themselves but they are worried about the health of their children. Upon calculation, we realized their problem can be solved with just around $8000.

Your donations totaling $8000 will include the cost of purchase, transfer, insurance and gas for a year of an old but decent little car.  When it comes together,  a small donation from each of you will mean a huge support for a family who is forced to be refugees by an autocrat with cruel intentions.

A side note: I was not able to convince Gunduz family to accept help originally, let alone sharing a picture. They told me that there are people who are in worse condition than them all over the world. However, these noble people accepted our help when they remembered other families in similar or worse situation than them in the refugee settlement. In the image, you see a disabled child next to their children. They assist the family of this children all the time. The idea of being the ride of the families who have bigger challenges was the only reason they accepted our help. They also left their savings back in Mali for the other Turkish families who could not have the opportunity to leave Mali unlike them. Even as a refugee, these noble people think of the others before themselves. Please, support these wonderful people.

THANKS IN ADVANCE to ALL OF YOU!

Ibrahim
