Greg is a devoted single dad who has always put others before himself. He’s worked hard for years to provide for his son, who just graduated this year, and has never hesitated to help anyone in need—family, friends, or even strangers. Recently, Greg’s life changed overnight. He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance with severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with pancreatitis and dangerously high glucose levels. While being treated, Greg began having trouble breathing. An emergency heart catheterization revealed his “widow maker” artery was 95% blocked, along with two other major blockages. Doctors told him he couldn’t go home without open heart surgery. But because his pancreas is still enlarged, surgery has to wait. He was sent home with a defibrillator vest and strict orders not to work. Now, instead of being the sole provider, Greg is stuck on the couch, waiting for his body to heal enough for surgery. His liver is also being monitored for further complications.

This situation is especially frightening for Greg and his family, as they lost their grandmother unexpectedly to open heart surgery in October of 1994. The uncertainty and fear are overwhelming, and Greg would never ask for help himself, but right now, he truly needs it. Having pre-existing diabetes when he hired into his current job 25 plus years ago, unfortunately he was not eligible to take part in any of the employee paid disability benefits, so now he is off work with no income.
