Support Grassroots New Play Development

Donation protected
Play Incubation Collective (PIC) is an emerging hub for new play creation based in Western Massachusetts. We are a collective of empowered theater artists centering stories that challenge the dominant cultural paradigm through a highly collaborative, unique play development process. We aim to change the landscape of new play development by eliminating the traditional gatekeepers and giving  playwrights creative control over their stories.  Playwrights are invited to spearhead their vision and design the path of development that best suits their play, with as much support as they'd like from our collective of multi-disciplinary theater makers.

In just over a year, we have helped to develop 17 projects, working with upwards of 13 playwrights and welcoming over 50 actors and other theater artists to the collective. Up until this point, all members of the collective have volunteered their time, but we are very excited to move into the next phase of our work where we intend to pay all contributing artists. Our first long-term project will be an eight month developmental workshop for Darcy Parker Bruce's Piedmont Plays (a 4-play cycle consisting of "Soldier Poet," "The Place That Made You," "Kingdom of Ghosts" and "Oh Captain! My Captain!" ).

We launched our fundraising campaign with a one-night-only Variety Show  featuring new work by PIC artists. While we await confirmation of multiple grants and establish fiscal sponsorship with Fractured Atlas, we are reaching out to individual donors like you to help us build a strong foundation for our future funding. Your money will go directly into the hands of local artists--actors, writers, directors, dramaturgs, and stage managers, and will fuel the continued development of new plays home grown here in Western Mass. Not only will you be helping to ensure that our local arts ecology remains strong on the other side of this pandemic, but, as a member of our greater PIC community/audience you'll be gaining a front row seat to a future of cutting edge, new theatrical works. Join us in making a bold declaration that the arts are indeed essential!
