Dear Friends and Family (I don’t expect strangers to donate, but if you do, I appreciate it and now consider you a part of my friend/family community),

I need your help. I have been living for too many months (years?) at sub-poverty level. Most of you know that I can (mostly) do that without envy and discontent.  However, it has reached a point where I need to make changes. I need you to help me decide which change(s) I will make. Please read this and carefully (prayerfully, if you are a person of faith) consider how best to help me.

I specifically need $200-300 a month to make up for an ongoing income shortfall, more if I am to make headway on the consumer credit I have unwisely accumulated.

BUT!

I don’t want a handout. I want to offer a collaboration of sorts, a way to get the ready cash I need now while offering you something of value in exchange for your financial help.  For your donation, I’ll will provide you with a graphic design item worth approximately an hour of my time.  (My standard fee for graphic design work is $35-50 per hour.) I will post a link to the design once it is finished.

In addition, I’m available for many web and graphic design solutions.  Visit my websites (www.SaRoseDesign.com  and www.StephanieShackelford.com).  Look at my portfolios.  Is there something similar you would like me to design for you?  A set of note cards, a poster, a business card, a family tree? Follow this link to a portfolio of some of my work. https://indd.adobe.com/view/05955dff-23ce-4028-a590-9d84ec1ce89f

Of course, I realize some of my dearest friends and family will just want to give me some money.  I appreciate your love and support.  You have done so much for me in the past, sometimes tangibly, always emotionally and relationally. Thank you. The biggest help you can give is to talk up my graphic design business, share with others what I can do for them.

I want a hand up, out of the financial mire and gunk where I’m caught.  Will you help me?

I want to be completely transparent.  From August through December (the time frame for this request), I will account for each penny donated to me.  I will provide you with periodic updates, no more than 3 weeks apart. I will report on how and where it was spent (general categories, such as utilities, business supplies, credit card debt) and on the ongoing growth (or lack) of my business.

If it becomes apparent that my freelance graphic design income will not grow sufficiently to pay all my expenses by the end of October, I will 1) seek out a seasonal job to manage the shortfall as well as, 2) aggressively seek a full-time position that will provide more stable finances.

I hate going through this time of financial brokenness, just as I hated going though the time of emotional brokenness that culminated 6 years ago and started me on this difficult emotional and relational healing journey.  I have learned it is through the brokenness, the vulnerability that we connect the most deeply.  So I hold my head high and ask you to walk with me, my Friend.  Be my partner.  Give me a hand up so that I might find my way out of this morass and, perhaps, to help others in similar circumstances.

I love you my friends. Thank you, in advance, for your love, prayers, well-wishes, and friendship.

Stephanie Gayle Shackelford

PS: If you want a detailed explanation of my situation and my thought processes for choosing this method of asking for help, I'll be adding that to an update.
