Help Gisella Rose Family Fund

On September 21, 2018, Gisella’s Daddy, Emmett Monroe Rose III., was involved in a serious, life-threatening motorcycle accident in Maryland.   He was hit by a van while riding,  and immediately air-lifted to the University of Maryland Baltimore Shock Trauma in critical condition.  Clinging to life, Emmett has undergone numerous surgeries throughout this past week and will have countless more ahead of him.  He suffered multiple internal and external injuries, as well as 3 severe spinal cord injuries; doctors are uncertain of his prognosis.

Upon notification of his accident, I traveled to Baltimore and assisted in making all of his critical care decisions until his parents arrived.  Although we are currently separated, I did not hesitate to support the medical staff to ensure Emmett had an immediate, loving family member by his side.  I assured him that he was very much loved and that I would do everything I could to help.  I promised him that I would always take the best care of our daughter, Gisella, and that he didn’t need to be afraid.  God and the angels would get him through this.  The accident was deeply shocking, and my heart was broken.  This man whom I had met in 1997, traveled the world with, married, and shared a beautiful daughter with was now fighting every second to live.  This accident has brought us all to our knees. We continue to pray and believe in the true potential of miracles.

Emmett is a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, Special Forces Ranger Battalion.   He has served his country with immense courage and valor in the most dangerous of places and missions.  It has been difficult to imagine that despite his high-level threat career, he was involved in an accident like this less than an hour from his home.  It is a testament to how finite and precious life truly is.  We should never take for granted our families and our loved ones, nor the simple, blessed moments we share.  Everything can change in one second, and in one heartbeat.

Emmett has always maintained the utmost of dedication to his career, team members, and his missions. He loves his daughter, Gisella, with all of his heart and he is her hero.  Many who know him would remark on his sense of humor, his deep love of his Oregon roots, his work ethic, his “gypsy blood”, and his dedication to making a difference in the world.  The impact of this accident is beyond words for all who know and love him.

I will continue to support Emmett in any way I can, most compassionately as the father of our child. My heart and soul ache with uncertainty, but I pray that each day he continues to progress despite the impact of his severe injuries.  It will be a long road to recovery, but if anyone can do it, Emmett can and will! He still has so much to do and experience here on this Earth, most importantly as a father.  He has an incredible amount of support and collective, positive energy being sent his way.

In the meantime, Emmett’s daughter, Gisella, will be unable to see her Daddy for an indefinite amount of time due to the current trauma unit where he is located.  He is under critical, 24-hour care.  Gisella is only 3 years old, and her whole world has been turned upside-down. She has been used to seeing her Daddy more often, since his return from Iraq this past year.  There will be a definitive void for her, until she is able to laugh and play with him again.

Currently, we have no family here in Maryland and are dealing with serious financial consequences since the accident.  Income for Gisella’s school and daycare, supplies, clothing, and food has ceased as Emmett had been responsible for these expenses and provided them during our separation.  We are experiencing extremely limited access to information regarding Emmett’s health status, and we are unsure if Gisella will be able to continue in her school program beyond this week.  My heart breaks as this is virtually the only stability she has, until her Daddy gets better.

Gisella is a very high-energy, affectionate, empathetic, outgoing, thriving child.  She is extremely intelligent, and her zest for life is endless.  She is a light and an old soul; she is her father’s legacy.  I am doing the best I can to remain strong and steadfast throughout this process.  Despite our marital status, all that truly matters is that Gisella is able to grow up knowing and loving her Daddy.  Somehow all the “noise” of life goes out the window, when you are faced with a crisis of this magnitude.  Gisella is our proudest accomplishment, and she deserves all the love and support she can get right now.

Any amount of support is DEEPLY and SINCERELY appreciated during this uncertain time.  I am positive that Emmett would want to know that Gisella continues to thrive and live a happy life.  I need to ensure that her immediate needs are being met, and I am THANKFUL to all who continue to offer any type of assistance.  This will be a long recovery process, due to the extent of Emmett’s injuries.  Donations here will go directly to ensure that Gisella can continue to attend her school and be surrounded by her supportive network.  She is in an amazing Pre-K program where she is learning phonics, math, cooking, ballet, and Spanish.

A wonderful, separate site has been organized by Emmett’s teammates and parents to raise funds for their travel and his medical costs.

Our family values any assistance, as our daily lives have been detrimentally impacted.  We believe in miracles and will continue to pray for Emmett’s recovery.  Although our futures remain vastly uncertain, we must and will remain strong and hopeful.  We THANK you as we continue to support Emmett during this brave battle, and we work to ensure that our daughter Gisella remains supported and cared for—with ALL of our love and dedication.

Life is a gift, and we can never forget to hold our children a bit tighter and a bit longer.  They are our greatest legacies, and the symbols of hope and happiness that we will forever treasure.
