On Friday, June 13, I was out of town to see a concert when I tripped over an uneven sidewalk and fell on the way to dinner. The fall broke my hip, and I needed surgery to have a rod and three pins put in my leg. I’m now recovering at my mom’s house, where I’m grateful to have a place to stay, but money is tight since she lives on Social Security. Thankfully, her house is paid off, so we’re able to manage without rent for now.

 I recently started a new job at a nonprofit food bank, a role I truly enjoy because it lets me help others in need. Unfortunately, I haven’t been there long enough to qualify for short-term disability, so I won’t have income while I recover. My doctor expects my recovery to take 10-12 weeks, though I hope to return to work on a limited basis sooner. I’ll know more after my follow-up appointment, but for now, I’m focused on healing and doing the exercises recommended by my physical therapist.

 I’m raising funds to cover my car payment, car insurance, health insurance premiums, groceries, and other small bills while I’m unable to work.
