Gareth is back at the Masters World Championships

Next month Gareth McGreevy, a member of Ballycastle Tennis Club will be travelling again to the ITF World Team Championships. One of the most challenging aspects of the tournament is that all the matches are played on clay, not something we're experienced in up here on the North Coast!

As well as working hard in his own matches against some of the best players in the 35-40 age category, as team captain Gareth also has a responsibility for the strategy and tactics employed by the team.

As a club, we are delighted to offer Gareth our support. We have worked with him to create this wee page to help him cover the money he has already invested in getting himself to this tournament in Manavgat, Turkey, 19 - 24 March.

Gareth has organised for players from the Irish team to come to Ballycastle to play exhibition matches on Sunday 26th February 1.00pm - 3.30pm. This event is a Thank you to club members for our support and he invites us to come down to the courts, that afternoon, to see for ourselves the tennis standard.

Gareth has been working hard to get physically prepared for the competition and he shares his weekly training routine here:

Two gym sessions per week mainly on coil and twist movements.

50% legs, 30% core, 20% upper

One 5k per week under 20mins

Two hits per week working on consistency and point construction with heavy spin.

One match play per week working on the key improvements from practice.

No contact sports, no smoking and no drinking!
