Hi everyone,
My name is Gabrielle Mehau, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart but hopeful spirit. I was recently re-diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) — a chronic, unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting the brain’s ability to communicate with the body.
Living with MS means facing a future full of unknowns. From overwhelming fatigue and muscle weakness to vision problems and cognitive changes, MS affects every part of life. While there is currently no cure, there are treatments that can slow the progression and help manage symptoms — but they come at a significant cost, both financially and emotionally.
Between medical appointments, specialist visits, physical therapy, medications, mobility aids, transportation, rent, and utilities the bills have begun piling up fast. Insurance covers some, but not nearly enough. Just my treatments to fight MS alone is $1,250 a month and that is with my insurance covering 90%. As of July 31st is when my job will be discontinuing my health insurance due to me having to over extend my FMLA (Family Medical Leave of Absence). For legal reasons my doctors cannot allow me to return to work because of my medical condition. That’s why I’m asking for your support.
I will be undergoing chemo treatments in hopes that I’ll be in remission and try to get back to “normal” as much as I can. Although it won’t be a 100% I was told it will hopefully get me to where I can live my life as I’ve done before while only needing to do the bare minimum treatments, such as Vumerity or injections everyday. To be able to live a mostly “normal” life is all I want so I can be apart of my children’s lives in every way possible when I get to be with them. I want to do everything I can to make sure I can be there for them during their special moments, to be physically stronger and healthier so that I can travel to or with them without too much worries. This is also mainly why I am resorting to asking for help.
Your donation — no matter how big or small — will go directly toward:
• Ongoing treatment and medications
• Physical therapy and mobility equipment
• Transportation to medical appointments
• Everyday living expenses such as utility bills and rent since I’m currently unable to work and have not been approved for financial assistance
This is not an easy journey, but with the love and support of this amazing community, I have hopes that brighter days are ahead. If you can’t donate, sharing this will mean the world to me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me during this fight.
With gratitude,
Gabrielle Mehau
