Help Gabi Heal After a Life-Changing Accident

Our dear friend Gabriela Corchado-Lorent needs our help.

If you know Gabi, you know she’s pure creativity and light. She’s one of those rare souls who can make anything beautiful. Whether it’s drawing, ceramics, knitting, crafting, or designing, her hands are her magic, and through them, she’s brought color, joy, and imagination into the world.

Just a few weeks ago, Gabi achieved something incredible: she summited Mount Kilimanjaro (a lifelong dream and testament to her adventurous spirit). The next day, she joined a safari in Tanzania offered by the same tour company. But what should have been a peaceful, celebratory moment turned into tragedy.

On the drive back from their first day, the driver began driving recklessly, trying to pass slower vehicles. The SUV was clipped from behind, rolled, and Gabi (wearing only a lap belt) was thrown through the windshield.

She suffered devastating injuries:

Her right hand was crushed, requiring four surgeries so far, including tendon and skin grafts and a wire placed along her index finger.

Her pelvis was fractured in several places after the roof of the car collapsed on her. She has undergone a major surgery to place a bolt and several plates to stabilize it.

Due to the severity of her injuries, Gabi had to be airlifted from Tanzania to a research hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where she spent about a month undergoing intensive surgeries and treatment.

Now, she’s finally preparing to come home, but even that requires medical personnel to accompany her and a special reclining flight due to her condition. She faces a long and uncertain recovery ahead: possibly more surgeries, physical therapy, and months before she can walk or regain full use of her hand (the very tool she uses for both her passion and her career as a graphic designer).

Despite everything, Gabi remains hopeful and determined, holding onto her bright spirit and humor even through pain. But the medical costs, travel expenses, and loss of income are immense.
