Support Gabi and Baby Copeland's Unexpected Costs

My strong, incredible niece Gabi gave birth to her son Copeland on April 4, 2025. While she couldn't wait to meet him, the process was not quick and it came with complications. Thankfully, after a C-section, she was able to hold Copeland for the first time. All seemed well.

Within hours, Copeland experienced clear signs of distress. He wasn't breathing and may have had seizures. The NICU at their hospital did their best, but it quickly became clear he needed to go to a facility with even more resources. Copeland was flown from Oshkosh to Madison to be at their Children's Hospital NICU, where he received care and testing for five days.

Gabi was released much earlier than normal (after a C-section) so she could travel to be with her baby. Gabi's family also traveled to Madison to be there and offer emotional support.

We don't know yet what Gabi will be responsible for as far as hospital bills are concerned, but we will keep you updated once billing and insurance have gone through everything.

But there were costs upfront that Gabi as a single mom has had to deal with. Her first and only thought was for Copeland. We humbly ask for you to help cover these unexpected expenses:

• Gabi had no time to pack for the trip and had to send her sister to a thrift store to bring her clean clothing so she wouldn't have to leave Copeland's side.
• Travel costs, parking, gas, etc., for multiple family members to travel to Madison to be there to support Gabi and Copeland.
• All meals while away - there was no chance to pack or prepare food or snacks, and Gabi had to make sure she was getting proper nutrients to be able to feed baby Copeland.
• Unexpected time away from work. While Gabi expected to be off of work, her sisters spent unplanned extra time away from work (and school). As young adults without paid time off, they lost wages for shifts they didn't work.

Gabi will have many more expenses from Copeland down the road, but we'd like to help them be in a better place after such a difficult start. We appreciate any amount you may be willing to donate to help bring Gabi some peace of mind as she focuses on caring for baby Copeland.
