Support free doula services for marginalized women

Donation protected
Ever since learning about the fatal maternal mortality rates for Black women in America, I have been restless. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention , African-American, Native American and Alaska Native women are about three times more likely to die from causes related to pregnancy, compared to white women in the United States.

The fact is: too many women are dying largely preventable deaths associated with their pregnancy. And racial bias within the healthcare system is contributing to the high numbers of pregnancy related deaths and complications among minority women.

Earlier this year, I decided that my silence was enough, and with community support, I was able to enroll in a birth doula program. I took part in a birth doula training at Cornerstone in San Francisco: a Culturally Diverse Birthkeeper Training for POC Birthworkers.

This fall, I began working as a volunteer doula in Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh, NC. I provide FREE services to  Black, Indigenous, People of Color, queer, trans, gender nonconforming & low-income families.

I’m raising money to help with transportation services and compensation for my work seeing as I do not charge my clients anything.
Can you help? Donations help make this work sustainable and enable me support clients whilst being a student, and not needing to pick up a part-time job to survive. So far, I have supported 4 Black women and have 8 more on my roster from now to April 2020. I’m also an aspiring perinatal social worker, and I am ALL about serving marginalized Black women/birthing folks in the RTP area in North Carolina. I take a holistic approach to birth work — so I don’t just help my clients with pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum — I’m their advocate, cheerleader, and provide services and referrals from financial counseling to domestic violence services and support. Please consider giving. Your support means the world to me. Doulas make a difference and Black Mamas Matter!
