<div>Last year, my world was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects fewer than 1% of people. It doesn’t go into remission and doesn’t follow traditional staging. It’s measured by how far it spreads: localized, regional, or distant.

<div>After a car accident in April 2024, I had surgery to remove what doctors thought was a large fibroid. A week later, I received the devastating call: it was a tumor and I had high grade Leiomyosarcoma.
</div>

<div>I began chemotherapy at MD Anderson and completed six rounds by December 2024. Since then, I’ve been in recovery grateful, hopeful, and trying to reclaim some normalcy. My scans in December and March were clear. But on Saturday, April 26, 2025, I woke up in pain. A scan showed what I feared most: the cancer is back. It has returned and is now classified as regional. I'm now preparing for a biopsy, managing pain, and undergoing a full body MRI to determine if it has spread further.

<div>I’ve spent the last year fighting, recovering, and doing my best to be present for my six children and my grandson. My biggest fear isn’t the treatments it’s not being around for the milestones: graduations, weddings, first days of school, or those everyday moments that matter most.

<div>Despite having insurance, the out of pocket costs are overwhelming travel to Houston, scans, medications, and follow up care. I’ve been doing everything I can to manage, but I’ve reached a point where I need help.
