Support for Zane Baker

Story

Bert & Leigh Baker’s oldest son, Zane, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in August of 2017 at 20 years of age.  In July of 2018, Zane underwent brain surgery to resect the bulk of the tumour as Zane was experiencing frequent tonic clonic seizures and it was severely affecting his quality of life.  Zane was blessed with an incredibly gifted surgeon who successfully removed 90 % of the tumour but unfortunately it was unsafe for Zane for her to remove the entire tumour and that remaining portion needs to be treated aggressively. Zane met with a team of doctors this past February at the Cross Cancer Centre to determine the best next steps with radiation and chemotherapy. Zane’s doctors proposed Proton Therapy in the United States, a safer alternative to traditional radiation offered in Canada, but the family required approval from a medical board here in Alberta to proceed. Last week, after 3 months of waiting, we received the news that Alberta Health Care has approved the medical expenses associated with this treatment for Zane.  This is a state of the art treatment that is only available in 6 US hospitals.Any donations received will cover the  many expenses incurred during  Zane’s treatment, which will take them away from Sylvan Lake for the next 2  ½ months. Your support  will help them to cover the cost of flights, accommodations, and meals.  Leigh and Zane will be leaving for Florida at the end of the month. The Baker Family would like to thank you for your prayers, your support and your love.  We are incredibly grateful for all the kindness we received from so many since Zane’s diagnosis.
