We the YT Records team have put together a 2 weeks music livestream in aid for Sheffield venues in need such as Dryad Works and plot 22.
Here is a little Background about dryad works from their management themselves:
The team is assembled. We build 15 studios, rehearsal spaces and business units. I persuade the landlord to let me have half of it for a venue. He has faith. Has trust. Agrees. Funds it. Gentlemans agreement. I/we follow through with the goods.
Dryad is born.
Its 2018.
In 4 years the journey has gone from redundancy at a job I didn't really want. To owning and operating a soundsystem, warehouse venue and multiple creative workspaces. What a wonderful journey. It's only just beginning. The year is now 2019.
Sinai sound system tours Europe. Its amazing. Best life experiences. All in the name of sound. Culture. MUSIC. 2 creative journeys come together. 3, 4 ,5 ,6 creative journeys come together. Its outlook again! Its the 3rd year running.
KomatiK is on a BOAT. At OUTLOOK FESTIVAL. WHATT. Sinai, Raze & KomatiK. 3 Sheffield Don's. On fucking boats. Its maddd. ITS ALL IN THE NAME OF MUSIC.
Let's scroll back to Dryad. We've done a few events here. 110 cap. Winners. We are just getting started. 1000s of hours have gone in. Nobody got paid. Nobody asked for money. Nobody wanted money. We are working. For the love. We love it. We want it. We need it.
It's our venue now. Made by us. Its a DIY venue.
We fucking made it!
We aren't corporate. We are individuals making a difference. We are putting in the graft to get the results. Its working.

Its October. We've got MIDLAND coming. Wow.
Its 2019. 5 years since it began. And here we are. A bunch of creative individuals pulling off shows like its nothing. 20 hour days. So what. That needs doing. It gets done. We are doing it and its going well. This is us and this is what we do and it fucking works. Look at it.
We've done 15 events. They all do well. Its not even been 12 months since we opened officially as a venue and we've made national magazines and papers. We've got people coming from all over the UK. What an amazing experience. People are talking. People are loving it. We are thrilled and grateful for the enjoyment it brings. We are Dryad. And it exists.

COVID19 comes. We get on it and plan. We are on it. Guidance. Confusion. Restrictions. Open. Close. Have some money. Don't actually have some money. We crack on anyway.
The country falls to bits. The government fails.
The industry takes a hit. Our people take a hit. Our passion dissolves. Our friends businesses dissolve. We are lost.
We think fuck it. Let's have it!
Courtyard Sessions is born. We spend around £5000 making the venue Covid secure and invest in decor, seating, lighting, marquees, bar equipment, till equipment. Safety. Health. Coronavirus. Staff costs go up. Prices go up. We can't get Redstripe on the stock run. All we see is carling. We get worried. Maybe this is it.
We buy a load of stock. We are not selling carling we scream in the wholesalers!!!
We pull off 5 events. People really work hard. Give it their all. Put in the extra work.
The government pulls the plug. 10pm curfew. Limited cap. 10k fines.
We loose a load of money. We worked hard on our cultural recovery grant though. So hopes are held high. If bars who rarely do gigs the size of a shoe box with no cultural heritage can get over £100k why can't we? We are hopeful. We have held out for this. Its our last hope for a way out. We shake with anxiety at the ping of the email that morning.
Its Friday the 16th of October 2020.
"Results Day"
We get the email. We read it. We are crying. I'm crying. It's me again. That guy who got made redundant 5 years ago. That guy and allllll those people who all have their 5 year storys and similar journeys. All of us. Everyone who has stepped foot through the doors of that venue. Everyone who has supported or who has been supported by Dryad. Its US!
We are the people who were let down. We are the people who have been working around the clock to make this happen. We are the ones left wondering HOW THE FUCK.
Dryad Works falls into the ranks of the major London clubs who didn't get a look into the millions of pounds dished out from the Cultural Recovery Fund. We don't really know what to say. They said we are TOO YOUNG.
We say sorry for being young, ambitious and passionate. We are sorry for working around the clock for nothing more than the enjoyment of other people. Sorry for going that extra mile. Sorry for putting such a solid effort into a creative community full of vibrant people. Sorry for bringing tens of thousands of people into our venue and giving them a good time and a memorable experience. Sorry for wasting everyone's time. We haven't made an impact. We aren't cultural enough. There's quirky bars owned by older people and hipster DJ fan clubs run by smarter people out there that are clearly doing such a better job. So for that we say sorry. Sorry we tried. Sorry for bothering.
It's a shame we aren't seen as cultural enough or old enough. We think we are. I dont know about you?
Congratulations to everyone who got their much needed funds. We hope you get from it what is needed. Security & sustainability.

What’s at risk with Plot 22 is much more than just a music venue. Plot 22 is a veritable creative hub that houses studio space for over 10 independent creative artists. It also provides a safe creative space that exists to support many others through ongoing workshops, projects and support sessions for young people and vulnerable adults in Sheffield.
These places are crucial for the development of Sheffield underground culture and provide a valuable space for people to express themselves and access a wide variety of services, often provided in kind, for the love of the cause.
We're used to working long hours for no pay and have collectively grafted to craft these spaces into purpose-built creative studios, offices and event spaces. DIY and rave culture is built on the spirit of independence and doing things your own way. These spaces exist to prolong the spirit of that culture, to pass on the values of community support and collaboration, often providing a space for new original music, art and other creative output to thrive!
Losing grassroots underground spaces is not an option. They're a necessary part of preserving and nurturing our culture and we must protect them!
