Support for Uncle Sho's Family
Donation protected
With hearts shocked beyond words, we announce the passing of our dear brother, AbdurRahman Soremekun (1963-2017). He died on January 31st, 2017, after a very brief illness.
Brother AbdurRahman, fondly known as Uncle Sho, was a fixture in the Houston community - a Houston ISD school teacher known to be very dedicated to serving children and their families. He volunteered for a multitude of projects and carried them out wholeheartedly, such as picking up new immigrants or Platform committee members from the airport at all hours of the day and night.
He is survived by his mother, his wife and 3 children, 2 of whom are in college and the other, younger. They all need our immediate support in order to fill the void their father has left so that they are able to continue their education. The funds will also cover day-to-day and recurring expenses like monthly housing costs, utilities and food.
We are humbled and grateful to each of you for your contribution, no matter how small. Whether or not you knew him, it really does mean a lot and reminds his family that he is well-loved, and that his selfness towards others has not been for naught.
His Janaza/ burial ceremony and prayers, was on February 1st at 12:30pm at Masjidul Mumineen, 8875 Benning Dr., Houston, TX 77031.
May Allah forgive him and elevate his station among those that are guided, and shine a light upon him. O Lord, enlarge his grave for him and have mercy on his soul and please console his wife, mother, children, entire family and friends. Ameen!
(Note: The description of our brother is from those who knew him well. Other words above are those of community members, and a few are mine.)
**More about Uncle Sho from those who interacted with him (direct quotes or paraphrases. Names left out for privacy):
"...selfless, sincere, dedicated, committed, diligent and fearless in everything he did everywhere. Only Allah can reward his efforts..."
Whenever he became aware of any free science projects, he involved the Mumineen kids.
"He was the engine behind the MBF Summit every year. Always dependable and delivered all the time without complaints..."
"We were together at the mosque meeting on Saturday for almost 8 hrs. May Almighty Allah forgive all his sins..."
"Very helpful and wonderful, always wanna listen carefully to everything one has to say..."
"...so sad to be reading this, he was so nice to me always. Wish I could attend the janazah :("
"What a gentle man [that] just left our midst. From my few interactions with Br. Abdulrahman I found him to be a man of deep reflection and unquestionable intellect..."
"What a big loss for his family and the community..."
"...he was in the forefront of the efforts towards starting our Mumineen clinic..."
