Support for Steve Conway's recovery

Here's where our story begins:

My sweet brother - in - law, Steve Conway, was rushed to the hospital on Dec 19, 2020 and diagnosed with Covid-19. This was a terrifying diagnosis because his doctors had warned our family that if he caught this virus, he would not survive.

It was a sad and scary holiday season, not knowing if he would pull through from one day to the next. Stacey's daily video chats with Steve attempted to encourage and inspire him while he was under sedation and ventilated. Time moved on, as it does, with one struggle after another. Several battles with sepsis, pneumonia, and UTIs extended his hospitalization. The doctors also suspect he may have had a stroke while under the sedation because, to this day, he cannot walk and has very limited use of his arms and hands.

Over the past 8 months, Steve has stayed at 7 hospitals until he came home on July 28, 2021. Although this is cause for celebration, his situation is still precarious and his care needs are extensive. He has a long road ahead where he will continue to work hard to regain the use of his legs, arms and hands. The consistency of therapy is key in his recovery.

The therapy and nursing are not fully covered by insurance. He needs to have 24/7 nursing care and Stacey needs to continue working to support the family, which means she needs to hire skilled caregivers to fill in while she is at work. This is fully out of pocket and expensive! The hospital bills have begun to arrive adding to the financial burden for the family. One ambulance ride alone, after insurance, was $6000 plus!
