I am Jordan King and my father is the owner / operator of SeaSpray Resort and Marina on Elbow Cay. I am currently in Florida with my father Richard who was evacuated from the island a week after the storm and who is now recovering here in Florida.
On Sunday, September 3rd Hurricane Dorian ripped through the North Western bahamas as a Cat 5 hurricane packing winds in excess of 220 miles per hour, decimating the incredible island of Elbow Cay. SeaSpray Resort and Marina, located on the southern end of the island in a cove called White Sound took the brunt of the eye, and was completely leveled by the storm. Not a single structure was left standing and the destruction is absolute and it will be months before cleanup can begin, and years before a rebuild can take place. Our wonderful staff, over 50 Bahamians who worked tirelessly for years to provide guests with an incredible Abaco experience, have been left without jobs, and most have no homes as their houses were also destroyed in the storm. Although management is doing everything they can to assist their staff in the interim, The catastrophic impact on these hard working Bahamians is huge, and they will need support for themselves and their families to rebuild, relocate, and in the short term pay for housing, food, medicines and all the other things you can imagine would be needed in the aftermath of a disaster such as this. As such, and at the request of dozens of concerned guests who have reached out asking how to help, we are creating this GoFundMe in order to help pool funds to be distributed to the SeaSpray staff to help them through their time of need. 100% of the funds collected through this fundraiser will go directly to the bartenders, servers dockmasters, office staff, maintenance staff and cleaners you have come to love over the years. Whether it be a dollar or a thousand dollars, every cent will have a direct impact on the staff and their families and will help them move on from this horrendous event. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and we will be happy to answer if we can. Thank you, God bless, and forever #AbacoStrong and #SeaSprayStrong.
