Support for Ryoji Fujita's family

Donation protected

The world has lost a wonderful human being.   Ryoji was a beloved son, brother, friend and colleague.  He passed away on March 14, 2020 in a hiking accident .  It is believed that he was snowshoeing, in the area of Lion’s Bay, when an avalanche hit.

Ryoji was a talented Effects Artist; a rockstar at his craft.  His talent never went unnoticed and gained him recognition at many of the local Vancouver visuals effects studios like Image Engine, Sony and ILM and also in his native Japan.

Ryoji was a quiet individual, humble and well liked by his peers.

Ryoji was an outdoorsman who had recently returned from a month of hiking around the Mount Everest base camp.  He spent hours hiking local mountains like Mount Harvey, Cypress and Mount Brunswick. A 10 hour hike was not uncommon for Ryoji; he was happiest surrounded by nature.

Ryoji’s family live in Japan and are currently unable to travel to Canada because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  They are currently exploring a special travel visa that may allow them to travel during this restricted and uncertain time.  We'd like to come together and collect donations to help contribute to his family's visa and travel expenses and the costs associated with returning Ryoji belongings to Japan.  No parent should have to say goodbye to their child and we want to do what we can to support them in this time of unimaginable grief.

I know this will be a difficult time for a lot of us who knew Ryoji.  Share your memories and keep his spirit alive.

Understandably there will be no memorial service or gathering at this time but we will keep interested parties informed if anything is arranged in the future.

I'm a friend and ex-coworker of Ryoji and organizing this fund behalf of this family in Japan. All amount of this fund goes to  his family for their travel expenses so they can come and collect his remains here in Canada, also go towards shipping costs to return his personal effects to Japan.  As Japan is not one of the supported countries where GoFundMe can handle the funds, I'm going to collect all funds and send an international money order or transfer the money to them.

We'll continue to update the GoFundMe site on the progress of Ryoji's family and their travel to Canada, also all the process of the funds.
