Ralphy Varela is a dedicated firefighter paramedic for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, and someone who has always put the needs of others first. Recently, Ralphy experienced an unimaginable tragedy when his mother, Elizabeth Ortega, lost her life as the result of a murder-suicide secondary to domestic violence. Elizabeth was a communications officer for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, and her loss has deeply affected not only Ralphy, but the entire community she served.

 In the wake of this tragedy, Ralphy is facing significant challenges. He is responsible for funeral costs and must provide financial support to get things in order during this difficult time. The sudden loss has left Ralphy with the responsibility of navigating his own grief and the practical realities that come with such a devastating event.
