A few weeks ago, our sweet Olivia Lyell faced an unimaginable battle with her health. What started as feeling unwell quickly escalated, landing her in the ER with an HPIV diagnosis. This cruel virus caused her airway to swell dangerously, eventually leaving her struggling to breathe. Despite the tireless efforts of the ER team, two nights of breathing treatments and steroids brought little relief.
In a heart-stopping turn, Olivia was rushed via ambulance to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where she spent two nights hooked up to a ventilator, ensuring her tiny body received the oxygen it so desperately needed. Those days were some of the scariest of our lives, watching our brave little girl fight with everything she had.
When her oxygen levels finally stabilized, she was transferred to a regular pediatric room, spending three more nights in the hospital. She continued to receive breathing treatments and steroids, and even in the midst of it all, our little warrior found moments to smile. Her strength and resilience shone through every cuddle, every small grin, and every moment she reminded us of how incredible she is.
As parents, this experience has been nothing short of terrifying. There’s nothing more painful than watching your child endure something so difficult. The timing also meant we had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel Olivia’s birthday party.
