Support for paying medical bills for friend's Dad

Donation protected
Hey everyone, hope everybody is doing well in these trying times. I know it is rough for a lot of people. However, I still feel the need to ask the community for  help in this matter.

Recently, my good friend and valued member of our local community (Danyal Ahmad a.k.a Danny) has been faced with a hardship regarding his father's health. Mr Mukhtar Ahmad (Danny's Father) has been diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis. It is a disease that inflamates the brain and spinal cord. As a result, this is causing  a significant loss of memory and  body pain. At the moment he is incredibly lucky to be in the US as that is one of the only places in the word that could treat his disease. Unfortunately he has already a severe financial debt due to the treatment incurred so far.

Danny's father is one of the most beloved people I know, he's the most humble, simple,  and down to earth person. His spirit is truly infectious and he deserves the absolute best from the world.

Right now, he already has an incredible amount of support from both his children Danyal and Sam, including his daughter in law Paula, but I will do everything in my power to increase it and let him know the world wants him to recover and to continue to be the amazing father he already is.

Below is a short story by Danny on the illness of his father:

In Jan 2020 my dad was diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis. Which means brain and spinal cord inflammation. His memory became so bad, it was hard to wrap our heads as to what was happening. He started getting worse and worse and started forgetting everything.

We were told by a neurologist in Pakistan we have to get him to America and get his treatment started. The doctors and the treatment administered is rare and is only done in America. To add to our misfortune, my paternal grandmother, passed away, which made things worse for my dad's emotional health.

In March 2020, we got him back to America and started his treatment. He was admitted to Parkland hospital for autoimmune disorder and was treated with plasma exchange and other medicines under Dr. Blackburn’s supervision. The treatment was given by a neck catheter, which my dad pulled out and bled all over the place. My dad was depressed and confused and due to the visitors restrictions placed by the outbreak COVID 19,  he was all alone. He stayed at the hospital for about 10 days. Nurses moved the catheter to his leg to avoid future mistakes while he was at the hospital.

Right after he came home, he started bleeding out of nowhere, my brother Sam was urged to rush him to the Arlington Hospital at 2:00 a.m. Not knowing what was happening, my dad was discharged by the hospital same day at 6:00 a.m. However, his leg pain persisted. My father was not able to move around and so my brother took him to Medical Center of Arlington where we found out he had a deep vein blood clot. My dad had to stay at the Medical Center for about 5 days completely alone. He received blood transfusions as his body was not creating blood on his own anymore.

As we were running out of ideas we found that UT Southwestern was performing studies in Autoimmune Encephalitis, which we thought was risky but it was better than nothing. We had high hopes for this opportunity. Dr. Blackburn was the doctor leading the investigation and he ordered blood work for my dad to make sure he was okay to go and start the treatment.

Unfortunately, by doing this we discovered that my dad also tested positive for TB. Which is Latent TB (Not Active), but because of the medicine they prescribed for TB made him ineligible for the study by UT Southwestern. Dr. Blackburn stopped replying to our emails and calls altogether.
We did eventually find a neurologist and hematologist for which every appointment is around $400 out of pocket, . The main prescribed medication for his blood clot Eliquis is $500

I’m here today to ask for your help, as we recently told my dad, the best we chance have is a treatment called IVIG therapy for autoimmune disorders. Each of these treatments cost USD $11,800 and my dad needs 3 to 5 rounds of it ,depending on how he reacts to it.

We sincerely ask, anything you can do to help would be incredible, even just positive thoughts and prayers. Thank you all and I hope you all have a great day/night.
