My name is Elliot Dobie. I am graduating from my History degree at the University of Lincoln in September 2026 and I am twenty one years old. I grew up in Essex and have spent most of my life there. 
 
I have been involved in my local parishes for years. From altar serving to going on pilgrimage, the Catholic faith has been the centre of my life. Since 2023 I have been considering a vocation to the priesthood and after years of discernment and a joyful stay with the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest in Preston in 2026, I decided to apply to their candidacy and discernment prigramme for their house of discernment.

What attracted me to the Institute was their spirituality and way of life, after witnessing such brotherly fraternity among the canons and candidates I knew that this was where I was being called. I love the Institutes focus on living in community as well as its preseverance of Catholic tradition. 
 
The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest was formed as a society of Apastolic Life of Pontifical Rite. The main stated goal of the Institute is 'to honour God and the sanctification of priests in the Catholic Church and souls.' They also have a focus on 'spreading the reign of Christ in all spheres of human life by drawing from the treasury of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly her liturgical tradition, the unbroken line of spiritual thought and practise of her saints, and her cultural patrimony in music, art, and architecture.'

The Institute requires 8 years to form good and holy priests, this includes a year of discernment. This is a crucial year so that the candidate can discern if he is truly called to the priesthood and to be formed to the spirituality of the Institute. 
 
I am pleased to say that I have been officially accepted into the candidacy year at the house of discernment. In order to pay for this I am hoping to raise £3,700.
