Support For The Moore Family

On Tuesday, October 1, 2018, Mike and Gillian were completely unaware they were unwillingly starting a journey that no family should have to endure. Mike went to urgent care with a fever, nausea, and dizziness and was given the diagnosis of a kidney infection and vertigo. On Wednesday morning, Gillian went to wake Mike up and give him Tylenol to bring down his fever and Mike seemed very delirious as he spit the Tylenol back out with glassy eyes. He didn’t know who Gillian was or where he was. Mike was transported to the hospital via an ambulance where he was still very delirious but being treated and tested for many different infections and diseases, making even the doctors scratch their heads. After many tests and a spinal tap, the doctors determined that Mike had viral meningitis and admitted him to the ICU. Mikes condition did not progress as he was being treated for meningitis. On Thursday night, he became unresponsive. Again, making the doctors scratch their heads as they ruled out many different infections and diseases - they were forced to start thinking outside of the box. It was determined that he is suffering from Viral Encephalitis. There are spots in his brain and brain stem that are inflamed and impacted by the virus. On Saturday, when Mike should’ve been celebrating his 38th birthday, he was intubated and transferred to CMC Main Neuro ICU where for the most part, he has remained unresponsive as his body fights hard to ward off this virus that is impacting his brain and consciousness. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill that will help him at the snap of the finger - right now, the hospital is providing supportive care as Mike fights. He has had some great moments where he gave a little squeeze to Gillian’s hand, opened his eyes for a bit, and even gave somewhat of a nod to a friend. However, it seems that it will be a winding road to recovery with many good days and days where he needs to rest and may not squeeze our hands as hard as we wish he would.

Mike is an amazing husband, father, and brother. He loves his wife, Gillian, and sons, Cameron and Greysen, more than anything in the world. He is a huge fan of The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, I feel like “huge fan” doesn’t even begin to describe his fandom and loyalty to these teams year after year.

Mike and Gillian are both selfless individuals who would help anyone in a heartbeat - now is the time that we can help them. As you know, the cost of medical bills add up quickly and the bills for everyday living don’t stop while you’re spending everyday in the hospital. I started this fund to help them now and in the coming days/months while Mike fights this virus and Gillian fights with him by his side. Additionally, my hope is that it will also contribute to the care and support they will need after this journey comes to an end and they transition back to their normal lives.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me ([email redacted]).

Also, all your prayers and positive vibes are graciously accepted! Mike is a tough guy and has a tough wife fighting hand in hand with him, with her support and our love and prayers, I have no doubt he will be on his feet and laughing with us in no time.
