Support For Mandee Barnes’ Brain Surgery

Whats going on?
In 2013 my wife Mandee started to experience severe pain on the side of her face.  It would hit her with a sharp electronic shock causing her to  convulse uncontrollably with  excruciating pain.   After seeing her doctor she was  diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia . She then had the condition confirmed by 2 MRIs and 2 neurologists.  She was put on several types of pain medications to help with the unrelenting pain she was suffering. At first it helped she was able to reduce the pain to the point that she was no longer experiencing the convulsions although the pain still present.  Unfortunately this relief comes with a cost. The medication dosage had to be increased the longer she was on it and after six years she is at the point where it is no longer safe for her to be on the medication. Doctors have tried several other types and in several combinations but she is now in risk of liver damage and overdose. The only option left is a brain surgery called Microvascular decompression. Mandee is the most caring and empathetic person I have ever met, and it hurts me to know behind that beautiful smile she is suffering not wanting to show it or tell others because she does not want to bother them with her problems.  This brain surgery frightens her but staying on the medication and enduring the pain and side effects is no longer an option.

Recommend Treatment
Microvascular decompression  (MVD) is a surgery to relieve abnormal compression of a cranial nerve causing trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, or hemifacial spasm. MVD involves opening the skull (craniotomy) and inserting a barrier between the nerve and offending artery triggering the pain signals.

The surgery will be performed at Queens Center Hospital on Oahu on June 3rd.  She is expected to be in the ICU for approximately three to five days. She will then be released and continue recovery at home. She will then have to fly back for a post operation examination. The recovery time can be up to two months depending on many different factors.

The hard part.
It pains me to ask my friends and family for help with this but without her ability to work and the cost of having to fly to the neurosurgeon several times in a short period of time we will be suffering a financial hardship.  We are doing our best to cover as much of the medication, surgery, recovery, rehabilitation, lodging and travel cost as we can but we could still use some help.  I will be taking off as much time  as I can from work to aid Mandee with her recovery.

We appreciate any and all support we can get whether it be financial or positive words and love.

Thank you so very much.
